Our designers begin work the minute we have a house, as early as September or as late as December. After a walkthrough, designers submit their top room choices and their design plans for their first choice. Our committee selects the designer for each space, works through any issues with the planned design based on any restrictions from the homeowners, and then off they go!
The next several months are spent finalizing their plans and purchasing supplies. Then, immediately after our usual February Empty House Party (unfortunately not held this year), designers start the renovation. They have about 5-6 weeks to complete their work, which can be as simple as “paint and decorate,” or be as complex as a complete gut and rebuild on their area. Then it’s the “designers’ dance” of figuring how to bring in furniture and make final touches without damaging one another’s work. They finish in late April, we hold our and publicity events, and then it’s on to our Gala Party and opening day, a month of house tours, and any special events we are able to hold based on COVID safety protocols.
